In addition to contributing songs for publications by Scholastic, Boosey and Hawkes and OUP, I was commissioned by the BBC to write 'Wind and Cloud' and 'Kutu and the Story Tree' for 'Music Box', an Early Years radio programme.

I have written a considerable number of longer vocal works.  As a full time teacher I collaborated with Bishop Grosseteste College in producing 'operas', which were performed at Grimsthorpe Castle by Y5 & Y6 pupils from my school, working with BGC music students.  When the college achieved university status their new timetable arrangements did not allow this to continue, so I invited the music department of Bourne Grammar School to join us.

Some of the operas include musical versions of: 'Persephone', 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Pinocchio' and 'Cinderella'.  I composed a concert version of 'Alice', with additional material, for the Croydon Schools' Music Association, which was performed at their annual Junior Festival at the Fairfield Hall in 2005.

CSMA also commissioned me to write two song cycles, 'Croydon Cavalcade' and 'Unsung Heroes and Villains', for their KS1 Festivals.  These were performed at the Fairfield Hall in 2004 and 2007 respectively. A KS2 song cycle, with a 'green' theme, was performed by the Junior Massed Choir in 2008.

'Sue is an inspiration to music teachers and all primary practitioners.  Over the years I have invited Sue to run workshops in my authority as well as commissioning her to write cantatas for massed choirs at our borough music festival.  Her workshops never cease to enthuse; the material she presents is exciting and fun with a genuine educational focus.  The pieces we have commissioned Sue to write have been wonderful to sing.  She blends music style into memorable melodies that the children always enjoy singing'.

Helen Bretherick Assistant Head of Croydon Music Service - Primary Curriculum

In 2010 I was commissioned by Sue Becket (Head of Music Service) to write a set of songs to celebrate 'National Sing Up Day' in Portsmouth. Several schools brought their KS1 pupils to sing the song collection 'All at Sea', complete with pirate hats and costumes, treasure chests, parrots and .... gold doubloons !
